Serial production of diesel engines at the SOLLERS plant in SEZ Alabuga was launched on 10 July 2023 as part of the INNOPROM industrial exhibition.

The production launch ceremony was held online at the stand of the Republic of Tatarstan, attended by Russian Federation Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Russian Federation Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, Head of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, and SOLLERS PJSC Board of Directors Chairman Adil Shirinov. The event was also attended by Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus Roman Golovchenko and Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov.

Speaking at the ceremony, the enterprise’s General Director Ilnur Sakhabiev reported that the plant had been upgraded and made ready to launch the assembly line, and Russian Federation Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin heralded the start of the new production live online.

Established in 2015, the engine plant is now fully refurbished to produce modern, Euro-6 conforming 2- and 2.7-litre diesel engines.

‘Today we are launching the production of a new engine family at an advanced high-tech enterprise and we are absolutely certain that this is only the first step on the way toward Russia’s first fully domestic production of small diesel engines – both for SOLLERS Group vehicles and for the needs of the Russian automotive industry as a whole, as well as for other industries. The enterprise will encompass all key processes – from casting, forging and machining basic engine parts to assemblage and testing,’ SOLLERS PJSC Board of Directors Chairman Adil Shirinov said.

The project includes launching the production of 130 hp (288 Nm of maximum torque) 2-litre engines and 150 hp (355 Nm of maximum torque) 2.7-litre engines. This fully domestic line of engines features a number of engineering solutions (chain drive timing, cast iron cylinder head, etc.) that help ensure reliable vehicle operation in any conditions.

It is worth noting that the project also envisions broad technological cooperation with other Russian automakers and suppliers in order to achieve maximum unification of component base and maximum utilisation of domestic casting, machine-tooling and other processing capacities. In the next two years, there are plans master the production of pig iron castings, crankshafts and piston groups.

Total investment in the project amounts to RUB 2.2 bln, including RUB 1.7 bln borrowed from the Industrial Development Fund. The enterprise is designed for a maximum capacity of 50,000 engines per year.

Facts and figures
The 42,600 square metre engine plant is located in the Alabuga Special Economic Zone, in close proximity to the Sollers carmaking plant. The enterprise is equipped with advanced, high-tech equipment that meets all requirements of production quality and efficiency, and environmental friendliness, as well as employee health and safety standards. The plant’s production lines are 95% automated.
